Sumaya will be playing in their first VIVARI Queen's Cup Final this Sunday after defeating the current holders of the tile, Loro Piana, 12-9 in the semi-finals. Both Ahmad Aboughazale, nephew of the team's patron, and Hilario Ulloa have played well above their handicaps throughout the competition and were instrumental in their team's success. Sumay's captain, Milo Fernandez Araujo, has also had a great tournament and so Sumaya will be many people's choice to lift the VIVARI Queen's Cup on Sunday.
Their opposition will be Jamie Packer's Ellerston team. This experienced team had a much tougher time in their quarter-final, narrowly beating Azzura 10-9. Many of the spectators assumed that this game was going to go into extra time as there was nothing to divide the teams for much of the game. Unfortunately Ellerston were without their 10-goal star Facundo Pieres as he had been injured in their quarter-final game against Lovelocks and so Pablo MacDonough took his place. However the team found another star in their patron, Packer as he scored a great shot at goal to give Ellerston a 9-8 lead at the start of the sixth chukka and then produced another magnificent goal with just seconds left on the clock to ensure them a place in the final. This victory means that Ellerston have a chance to notch up a record sixth win in this competition.
Finals day itself will start with an exciting game for the VIVARI Cup. Apes Hill, who impressed everyone throughout the competition will play Martin Ratcliffe's Grayshurst. This match will provide an great game of flowing polo and will be an excellent showcase of British polo as there will be three England Internationals on the field - Mark and Luke Tomlinson of Apes Hill and James Beim of Grayshurst.
